A
Message from the President |

|
Welcome. So then, what do you know?
|
|
| |
|
|
|
 |
When someone calls you a gossip are you justifiably
proud? Or are you a touch insulted? |
|
| |
|
|
|
It’s
funny isn’t it, the image that gossip has is still predominantly tacky,
with connotations of maliciousness, deceit and delight in the
misfortunes of others. There is an association with frivolousness and,
although we all do it, it is not always something that we would put
under ‘hobbies’ on our CV.

There are many definitions of gossip. Although essentially a morally
neutral activity in itself, the concept has been hijacked to become
associated with the unsavoury but not the sweet. It is true that some
who indulge in the fine art of gossip have malicious intent, but this is
no reason to label the whole practice as reprehensible. We at the
British Association of Gossipmongers are working to reclaim the concept
and restore it to its original meaning. |

We
need to get in touch with reality and embrace it, we should be proud
to be a gossiper and even prouder to be a gossipee, as Wilde said:
“the only thing worse than being talked about is not
being talked about”. |

It is healthy to take an interest in your fellow man, it is healthy to
encourage others to share secrets, it is healthy to talk. We need to
stop apologising for doing what comes naturally and start celebrating
it! |
